Ilse-Marie on the effect of yoga:

“Yoga has had a profound impact on my life. By focusing on the present moment, I’ve learned to handle stress better and appreciate the small joys in life. In a world that’s always changing at breakneck speed, yoga has become my still point.

Through my practice, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of what truly matters to me. I’ve found that teaching yoga to others gives me an incredible sense of fulfillment and purpose. Seeing the positive effects it has on my students fills me with energy and joy. Sharing my knowledge and passion with others is truly a beautiful experience. I feel grateful for the opportunity to make a positive contribution in my own unique way, by doing what I love!”

My background in Yin yoga

I have been an active practitioner of Yin yoga for many years and I really enjoy teaching Yin yoga.

What makes Yin yoga so powerful is that it helps you reconnect with your body and learn to listen to the signals it gives. This can be especially valuable in difficult phases of our lives, when we tend to ignore our body’s needs. Holding the poses for longer periods also turns it into a form of meditation in a posture, allowing you to turn inward to find more peace and healing.

This gives Yin yoga teachers a lot of space to work with compelling themes.

The first time I came into contact with Yin yoga, I was immediately super enthusiastic. From there, I delved deeper into Yin yoga and also the different styles of Yin yoga. My biggest inspiration in Yin yoga is Bernie Clark. I have learned a lot from him, which I have also incorporated into my training and lessons.

In addition to Bernie Clark’s valuable lessons, I am also very inspired by Sarah Powers and Paul Grilley (and Suzee Grilley), but I have also been inspired by Travis Elliot, who approaches it in a different way and works more with sequencing.

Their influence is also woven into my lessons and training. I have taken the things I learned that resonate the most with me and my students.

In my classes, energy work with your own breathing as an anchor is central.

In addition, meditation and mindfulness play a very important role in my style of Yin yoga. I also use elements from Qigong in my lessons. Based on my inspirations, student feedback, and my own practice, I have developed my own unique style.

More about the power of Yin Yoga

As a yoga teacher, I have personally experienced how Yin Yoga can help me connect more deeply with my body and inner world.

With longer holds in Yin Yoga, I can focus on the sensations arising in my body and create awareness of what’s happening inside. Regular practice of Yin Yoga allows you to dive deep into your body and connect with your inner self.

I have personally experienced the transformative power that this style of yoga can have, both on my students and on myself. In a world that values constant stimulation and movement, Yin Yoga provides a space to slow down, turn inward, and connect with the present moment.

By holding passive poses for a longer period of time, Yin Yoga works to release tension in the deeper layers of connective tissue and promote the flow of energy through the body. This can lead to improved flexibility, better blood circulation, and a sense of calm and relaxation.

But beyond the physical benefits, Yin Yoga has the potential to promote deep emotional and spiritual healing. By creating space for uncomfortable sensations and emotions to arise, we learn to cultivate a sense of acceptance and compassion towards ourselves and our experiences.

It’s so beautiful to see my students discover these benefits for themselves. Whether it’s releasing physical tension or finding emotional relief, I am constantly inspired by the resilience and growth that can occur through the practice of Yin Yoga.

Ultimately, Yin Yoga offers a powerful reminder to slow down, tune in, and honor the wisdom and intuition that lies within each of us.

It’s a practice of self-discovery and self-love.

I feel grateful to be able to share this form of yoga with my students. It’s such a beautiful way to relax and give yourself the time and space you need to dive deeper into yourself and discover what lies beneath the surface. I highly recommend it to anyone!

Tiziana Santi

Sound Chef – Yoga & Meditation Teacher – Sound Journeys – Therapist

Tiziana was born to English and Italian parents and is multilingual, having experienced various European cultures. After a career in commerce and administration, she spent 12 years in air freight logistics. However, her desire to help and care for others in need led her to qualify in child care as a youth worker with behavioral problems and gain experience as a live-in caregiver for the elderly. After moving to the south of Spain and leading a sustainable life on a Finca where she grew ecological vegetables, made spelt bread, goat cheese, and natural creams, she spent the next 12 years in Andalusia caring for vulnerable young teenagers dealing with conflicts, helping them to restart and offering them a new life. Through her work with the children and her holistic approach, which uses food as medicine and incorporates movement and relaxation therapies, she was able to make a real difference in their lives.

Tiziana is a versatile woman who is passionate about real food, travel, and holistic well-being. She has a strong desire to create food inspired by her travels that can be appealing to everyone. Her love of making things by hand is evident in her work as a vegetarian/vegan chef, where she uses her creativity and culinary skills to prepare healthy and delicious meals.

In addition to her work as a chef, Tiziana is a certified yoga teacher and sound massage specialist. She offers sound journeys and sound massages with Tibetan singing bowls and gong to help people achieve deep relaxation and rebalance their minds and bodies.

During this week, Tiziana will be both the chef, preparing delicious dishes for us, and co-host, leading a beautiful meditation. She is affiliated with the Peter Hess Institute and has been giving sound healings and sound journeys for almost 20 years. She has a super warm and pleasant personality. We have been working together for 8 years, and it is always wonderful to have her on the team.

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is a very passive approach to Yoga where you perform the majority of the poses seated on the floor or laying down.

The poses are held for longer periods of time, sometimes 3 – 5 minutes and in some cases up to 20 minutes. In Yin Yoga there are around 25 classical poses (+ variations).

Yin Yoga evolves into 3 main different levels of understanding, relating to the 3 main aspects of human existence :

On the physical level Yin Yoga targets bones, joints and connective tissues.

On the energetic level the practice reconnects with its roots of Taoist Yoga, and uses the ancient map and modern theory of the meridians, the long holds in Yin restore harmony in the subtle body by targeting the channels that run through the connective tissues.

On the emotional/mental level the Yin approach prepares the practitioner for meditation as one of the central intention of the yin practice is the cultivation of inner stillness.

Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, fascia, bones, and the joints of the body that normally are not exercised very much in a more active style of asana practice.

Yin Yoga offers deeper access to the body with the aim of lubricating and protecting the joints to make them healthier and stronger.

Yin Yoga is the perfect compliment to the more yang style of Yoga practice. Yang Yoga practices are vinyasa flow, ashtanga, power Yoga and hatha.

The main difference is that Yin Yoga is very passive with poses being held for longer periods of time.

Another important difference is that in Yin Yoga your muscles need to be relaxed as opposed to engaged, this is so you can work into the deeper layers of the body and move closer to the bone, an area often missed in a yang Yoga practice.

Being a more meditative form of Yoga the benefits affect both body and mind.

Yin Yoga poses stimulate the meridian lines and organs. Different emotions are stored in different places in the body, and when we work through the layers of the body, we work also through the layers of our emotions.

Yin Yoga encourages you to become aware of these stored emotions so you can begin to recognize them and release them.

Benefits of Yin Yoga:

Lubrication and protection of joints

Deeper access to the body through the relaxation of muscles

Improves flexibility

Release of fascia throughout the body

Acupressure massage

Regulates energy in the body

Calming and balancing for the mind

Stress reduction and ability to release anxiety

Ilse has such a warm, supportive, and caring approach, which is exactly what is needed in such courses, and I (as a yang person) unexpectedly fell in love with my new yin practice. Thank you, Ilse

I am so grateful that I booked the Yin Yoga 50-hour TTC in Malaga with Ilse from House of InnerPower. We not only delved deep into the power of Yin Yang, Anatomy, and Philosophy, but also gained insight into Yoga Nidra, Breathwork, QiGong, and much more. It didn't just feel like a course, but truly like a journey of self-discovery.

I recommend Ilse's training 150%!

Highly recommended.

Ilse, I want to give you a big compliment for guiding me through my Yin Yoga training. As one of the two men in the group with limited experience, I have developed into a beginner teacher with passion! It is a content-strong curriculum, with a beautiful connection to practical Yin Yoga exercises. You know how to bind and captivate the group. In my opinion, this is the place to follow your Yoga training / deepening!

Ilse, thank you so much! Kevin

Learned a lot.

Learned an incredible amount and enjoyed myself during the Yin Yoga teacher training. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I certainly won't rule out another training in the future! Thank you for the fantastic training!
